Here are some major differences between patios and porches: Patios are separate spaces, usually located in the backyard (sometimes on the side of the house), while porches are in the front of the house. Porches have roofs, patios normally do not. Patios are made from poured finished concrete (it can be also stamped, acid stained or sealed for a better look), or stone pavers that may be grouted with sand. Porches often match interior or some curbside elements and are first impressions when somebody looks at your home.
